Calcium folinate, also known as leucovorin calcium salt or 5-formyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrofolic acid calcium salt, is a formylated derivative of folic acid with the molecular formula C20H21CaN7O7. It is the activated form of folic acid in the body, which is converted to tetrahydrofolic acid without requiring dihydrofolate reductase. This property makes it essential as an antidote for folic acid antagonists like methotrexate. It is widely used in oncology, hematology, and as an anti-anemia drug.
