Methotrexate disodium salt is the disodium salt formulation of methotrexate with the chemical formula C20H20N8Na2O5 and molecular weight of 498.4 g/mol. This salt form dramatically improves aqueous solubility, achieving approximately 100 mg/mL solubility compared to only 0.01 mg/mL for free methotrexate – a 10,000-fold improvement. This enhanced solubility enables high-concentration parenteral formulations for intravenous or intramuscular administration. Like methotrexate, it is a potent inhibitor of dihydrofolate reductase with antimetabolite and immunosuppressive activities.
